Welcome to our Who's Who NPC page.
"Hai!" Tia says. "There's a team in the Florida area, and another in the Los Angeles area, though the spend time in San Diego and San Francisco, too. There is a team in Phoenix, Arizona. And there's a wandering island that's considered an independent nation, as agreed by many nations worldwide... it's called Archangel Academy. Many of the world's heros are graduates of Archangel. Incendiary is one of their lead teachers... a flaming-body fire user, she teaches flight, and combat. And there are hero teams in other nations. Japan has The Samurai, a team based out of Tokyo, but they cover the whole nation. I'm on good terms with all of them."
(Note: Kimiko is Neko's secret ID; Tia is Hoshi's secret ID).
May 30, 2010: I added a few notes to this page, mostly regarding Hoshi and Steel, two of Randi's Characters from other games, now NPCs in this game. See below.
Known Hero Groups/Teams
| 1. | Afrikaners - no fixed base, they cover the continent of Africa and vicinity. |
| 2. | Archangel Academy - not exactly a hero team, but a school -- a traveling island super school. |
| 3. | Aussies - Australia's super team, based in Sydney. |
| 4. | Blue Team (or Team Blue, or Blue, Lynx & friends), Seattle, WA area and west and northwest USA and southwest Canada. They have a jet-copter and sometimes travel quite a bit to get where they need or want to be. |
| 5. | Champions - New York and Northeast USA, but also world-wide (Defender, Obsidian, Seeker, Solitaire, et al). |
| 6. | David's Mighty Men - Jerusalem-based Hero team. |
| 7. | Eurostar - Heroes of the European Union (formerly criminals, now pardoned, though few heroes trust them). |
| 8. | Florida Four - Based in Miami, they cover the southeast US and nearby areas. |
| 9. | Jihad - 'Heroes' of the combined Arab-Muslim nations, dedicated to destroying Israel and America. Stated Tenets: Jihad are the world's only superheroes; all other 'heroes' are really villains. |
| 10. | Red Star - China's 'Hero' team, based out of Beijing. Visiting supers are unwelcome. |
| 11. | The Samurai - Tokyo-based team, covers all of Japan and surrounding areas. |
| 12. | The Sentinels - Phoenix-based Arizona team, covers all of Arizona and many of the surrounding states. They sometimes help with guarding the border, too... and have been known to assist Mexico when requested. The teams brick, Brass, recently retired and they took on two from Archangel Academy to replace him... Golem & Steel. |
| 13. | West Coast Superheroes - based in Los Angeles, CA, but they cover much of the southwest USA. |
Individual Superheroes and minor pairings:
Angel, The
The first thing you notice is his wings... a pair of massive white wings sprout out of his back and easily spread twelve feet to each side. He is big, too... seven feet tall, strong and grim-looking. White-gray hair crowns his head. His face is framed in some sort of dark blue wrap-around headwear that covers his brow, ears, down his jaw and under his chin. Something looking like a maroon undershirt has a round collar that juts up to cover his neck, peeking out from under golden armor on torso and arms. Each shoulder has a broad dark blue epaulet and he wears similar bracers wrapped each forearm. Epaulets and bracers each have gold plate inserts. On each insert and emblazoned on his upper right chest are strange-looking runes -- some alien language? Or perhaps just decorative? Black leggings and boots complete his wardrobe.
Neko has run into him on one occasion, and he may show up again.
Canon
Like Chance, below, I (Jim) had this drawing made by a friend of mine years ago. His "artist" name is Philo, and he drew Chance shifting from human into tiger for me on commission as a character-drawing for a role playing game.
Unlike Chance, I never got to play Canon much. She was loosely based on the Dragonball-Z characters Goku and Vegeta, but with some changes to fit the game in which she was cast. It didn't work out, but I love the drawing, so here she is. Someone may run into her in our games.
Chance AKA John "Jack" Stone (and other names)
I (Jim) had this drawing made by a friend of mine years ago. His "artist" name is Philo, and he drew Chance shifting from human into tiger for me on commission as a character-drawing for a role playing game.
I (Jim) played Chance in a long-running game with a GM friend of mine, almost all of it played on the web, in AOL or AIM or MSN chat rooms. I really enjoyed that game... so much so that our GM friend and Valerie and I collaborated on a novel of his adventures. We have never been able to get the novel published, but it was a very interesting learning experience.
In the Solo Chicago game, Neko and friends met Jack in the Arizona Animal Park... as a mountain lion, at first, anyway. Later, he admitted to being a mage of sorts.
Hoshi
Hoshi (Japanese for Star) is a mystery and she rarely (read never in public) talks about who she is, where she comes from, what her origins are, how she got her "powers" etc. Speculation abounds in the magazines and tabloids and internet web sites (both fan sites and hate sites) that have sprung up speculating that she may be a mage, an alien, etc. In truth, even Hoshi does not know many of these things, which is one reason why she does not talk about it.
She does have a reputation of working with both the military and police officials at various levels in different nations. Some accept her help because she gets things done... stops villains and foils their plots, rescues people, etc. Hoshi has been known to sometimes work with another superheroine, Blue (Seattle, WA area and the US northwest generally-speaking) and her team of animal-super-children (as dubbed by one media pundit). She has also been known to work with a woman mage who calls herself Psyche. Few people know it, though some speculate, that these two people are members of the Guardians, an elite group of Heroes who guard various worlds and/or Dimensions. Hoshi is reputedly Earth's Guardian and Psyche is reputedly the Earth Dimension's Guardian. Neither of them will discuss this topic openly... in fact, they tend to avoid the media at all times.
When asked about use of "children" in dangerous battles with super villains, Hoshi once stated, "When one has abilities such as these, one does not discriminate due to age. These 'children' as you call them save lives. When you are trapped in a dangerous situation, Mr. Reporter, and it is your life on the line, I think you might change your tone and be glad to accept the help of a child, if such child, by virtue of his or her bravery and capability, saves your life."
Hoshi is one of the world's most powerful super heroes. She has worked with the U.S. Navy (and other military and police officials on all levels) quite a lot and is often seen entering or leaving the Naval Base north of Chicago. She also works with police, having several contacts in various departments in the city and suburbs. Not fond of talking to the media, Hoshi has stated that her goal is to see to the safety and well-being of the people of this city, state, nation and world. She seldom says more than that publicly.
Hoshi is Randi's PC... now an NPC, but she still plays her sometimes as a PC. If your character runs into Hoshi, it is probably to convey information... or maybe to rescue you if you get in over your head. We don't want the NPCs to outshine the PCs, after all... at least, not usually.
Justice, Inc.
Other team members include:
- Brick (female, super-strong and tough).
- Claw Twins (one "Claw Man" male, one "Claw Woman" female, fast, each equipped with lethal claw-fingered hands).
- Fire (female flaming super hero).
- Ice (female with cold powers).
Additionally, they employ a number of non-super personnel:
- John Adams, Detective (not considered very competent, however).
- Richard Smith, Detective - ex-police detective, competent.
Justice, Inc.: Brick
Super Strong, Super Tough, not too fast, though.
Justice, Inc.: Claw Man
Super strong semi-brick.
Super tough.
Justice, Inc.: Claw Woman
Super-Fast and Tough. Considered a Martial Artist in addition to lethal claws.
Justice, Inc.: Fire
Super-Fast, Fire-wielding energy projector.
Justice, Inc.: Ice
Super Tough.
Neko - Player Character.
Speed
Speed is what the PSA calls a "Flying Brick" with a few extra tricks, including heat vision, super breath and super-senses. She is super-fast, super-strong, super-tough... one of the more formidable heroes out there fighting super villainy. Based mostly in Chicago now, she is capable of going anywhere in the world she is needed... and can get there within only a few seconds. Scientists are at a loss as to just how she can do this without creating a sonic boom, but she does.
Speed is considered a Level Four on the PSA's threat assessment scale.
Steel, Crystal
5'6" tall, she appears to weigh 125 to 150, but really weighs about 500 pounds due to metallic content of her silicon-based body.
Usually she is shape shifted into human form and looks like a woman in her late teens (she is really almost thirty when converted to Earthly years), with very long blond hair down to mid-calf, bright blue eyes and a pale olive complexion, but she can alter both skin and hair, and clothes, even make it look like she is wearing jewelry. Her ears are long and pointed, and the kids at Archangel used to tease her by calling her Vulcan Girl, T'Pol, T'Pau, pointy-ears and other names, all in jest and fun, but once it became known that she is very strong and tough, and that Golem is her boyfriend-fiancé, all teasing stopped.
In Hero ID she usually appears clothed in silvery leggings and a bodysuit-like garment that leaves only her face bare (and sometimes her face is all silvery, too), all covered in silvery metal, and it's obvious that she has killer abs to die for (see drawing). In other IDs, she has learned to make her skin appear as other clothes that are more Earth-normal, often wearing a halter-top, shorts and sneakers, but she can dress up in dresses if she wants, and often does if and when going off the island (or, more recently, out in public in general, since she does not spend much time at Archangel Academy any more).
In her true form, she is sort of like a manta ray, a silvery disc about 5' around, with four tentacles, much like four arms, but different too. And she has a 5' long, wiry tail that can snap at someone like a steel cable whip. Her face is vaguely the same, but stretched out, with the nose flattened.
In their last year at the academy, Mike and Ren (Golem and Steel) married, with many of their classmates and hero friends attending the ceremony in Montana. Now they live in the Phoenix, Arizona area as a superhero duo, and as members of the Sentinels Superhero team, based in Phoenix.
Steel (aka "Ren") is Randi's (Valerie's) character from the Third Millennium game on Hero Central, run by Jim and Jeff Mills and other GMs over a period of several years. We have drawn from that game for much of our background material for this game, with Jim's and Jeff's permission. Later, Randi played Steel in a private game with "Kestrel" GMing. Steel is not as powerful as Hoshi, but she is a pretty good brick with an interesting history should one meet up with her and get to know her.
Star
One thing is fairly certain, though. She is a super heroine. In her first public appearance, she helped save a family from almost certain death when their car when off a bridge after a traffic accident. She got each of them -- a mother and her two young children -- out of the car and out of the river and to the safety of arriving police officers. When asked who she is, she said, "Call me Star." And then she left rather than answer more questions.
| Who | Notes |
| Chance | See "Stone" (below). |
| Golem & Steel | Phoenix, AZ area... ex-Archangel Academy. |
| Hoshi & Neko & Mr. Black | Chicago, IL area. |
| Iron Angel | Florida and southeast USA, but also world-wide and extra-planetary. |
| Paragon | New York, Washington DC and northeast USA, but also world-wide and extra-planetary. Paragon is a Superman-like man who enters with his own theme music blaring around him, and he is fond of stealing Mighty Mouse's key phrase: "Herrre I come to Save The Daaayyy! That means that PARAGON is on the Waaayyy!" Everyone hates his bragging. The trouble is, he really is that good. |
| Speed | AKA Karen Richardson (Public ID), Chicago, IL and Midwest, but also known to operate across North America and occasionally in other parts of the world. She is fast, strong and tough, with some energy projector abilities as well. |
| Stone, John "Jack" | AKA Chance (but not well-known, as this is a secret ID thing) and other names, Jack is one of the foremost mages on Earth. He is also a known recluse who greatly prizes his privacy and often cannot be found by uninvited guests. He has several homes across the world... notably a mountaintop castle in Arizona and a penthouse condo in Chicago. |
There are others not shown here, both individuals and teams.
Note: We do not intend to run any game sessions involving the international teams or cultural or ethnic conflicts just because we don't want to deal with Player arguments about whose philosophy or religion is correct. The above material is provided more as a matter of flavor. Some of the above are from other games previously run by Kestrel and/or by Jeff, Jim and Randi Mills on HeroCenral.net or in private chat games on AIM.
NPCs (People who are "sort of" teammates):
Note: Many of the NPCs and some PCs are characters that have been played in Avery's (Kestrel's) games in the past. Some have been created by Avery, so credit where credit is due. Thanks, Avery! :)

Known Bad guys:
| Who | Info |
| Alexi | invisible assassin (in military prison). |
| Chambers, Dr. | mentalist, evil mad scientist (deceased). |
| Death, Dr. | Gadgeteer scientist, power suit, extreme resources and wealth, a real pain. He has hatched many schemes to defeat heroes and take over government of the world, but has always been beaten back by heroes. Dr. Death is the world's #1 most-wanted man, a world class supervillain. Permanently grafted into a Super-Science PowerSuit, he is very, very powerful and only a few of the world's super teams have been willing (or able) to take him on. History: 2002: First appearance: Using super-science and some sort of city-wide transmitter, a man calling himself Dr. Death caused all the citizens of New York City to become his slave army and do his bidding. Many people lost their life savings, transferring all of their money to a Swiss bank account, as did some wealthy men on Wall Street and in the banking industry. Even some supers were affected, but others were immune to the effect, and they located end destroyed the transmitter. But billions of dollars were gone and the Swiss authorities could not or would not do anything about it. 2004: A horde of interdimensional invaders assaulted Louisville, Kentucky, but heroes flew in from out of state and fought them off, aided by Paragon and Psyche. It was all a diversion, though, as Dr. Death showed up at Fort Knox and, using some sort of super vehicle and a horde of robot soldiers, stole a great deal of gold from the Fort Knox vaults. This was followed by a televised speech with Dr. Death claiming that 'all human beings are ants under my feet.' 2006: Dr. Death assaulted the United States and the United Nations, showing up at the UN with a contingent of armed mercenary thugs and robot slaves (robots that all looked like Dr. Death), killed all the security men on guard, took over the UN Security Council and General Assembly, stated that there were nuclear bombs secreted in various places in the US, Great Britain, in various European cities and nations and other select, undisclosed locations. He demanded that all nations of the world must submit to him, name him Emperor of Earth, pay him immense tribute, disband all world governments and religions and institute worship of Dr. Death... either that or he would rain death upon them and then rule the survivors. To demonstrate his power, he set off a nuke in the Atlantic Ocean, destroying a convoy of US and British and other nations' warships which were conducting a joint international war games exercise. The Champions, aided by Paragon, attacked his forces at the UN, forcing him to flee... though no one is sure where he went or how he effected his escape. 2008: Dr. Death used a system of 12 geosynchronously-orbiting super-science satellites to control weather world-wide. By generating tornadoes and hurricanes, he threatened the free nations of the world, demanding that they submit to him and his rule or be destroyed. Several of the world's super teams and independent superheroes worked in unison to attack both his satellites and his base in Sudan, once it had been located, to neutralize his weather control system and capture or kill Dr. Death. They succeeded, but at a cost. Four superheroes died before they killed the doctor, only to find that what they killed was a robot look-alike. No one knows where he really is or when he may reappear. Defender is attempting to analyze the robotic remains of the look-alike. |
| Doctor, The (AKA 'Master') | Known powerful mentalist, evil mad scientist responsible for Jaguar, Neko, Ram and other super-kids. |

| Juan San Juan | mercenary captain, sadistic, vicious man. |
| Mindy | assistant to Dr. Chambers - mind control mentalist (in military prison). |
| Oni, The | Japanese Demon(s). |
| Orca | Only appearance: He assaulted the city of Chicago with a tidal wave generated from Lake Michigan. Over twenty people were killed, leaving only body parts as evidence. Speculation was that, impossible as it seemed in a fresh-water lake, that the people were killed by sharks. Superheroine Hoshi was able to look through time and 'see' the man who caused the flood and attacks, a man with blue skin, who preferred to stay in the water of the lake, a man called Orca, as they later learned. She 'saw' him and was able to form an illusion of him, which Lt. Brass photographed with his cell phone camera and sent to Admiral Edwards, so that Military Intelligence could research him. Additionally, Hoshi was able to scan the world and locate him, using her mind's eye to spy on him as he swam around in the Atlantic Ocean. Superheroes Hoshi, Neko and Mr. Black traveled to Antarctica with a team of Navy Seals in cold-weather gear and set up a trap to bring Orca to the south and an ambush. Hoshi teleported to the Atlantic, attacked Orca there, teleporting him to Antarctica. The team then fought him there, though the struggle was difficult, and they took him down. Returning to the aircraft carrier from which they were operating, with the supervillain and his back-slung object believed to be one of the legendary seven swords, Heroes and Navy personnel discussed the situation, consulted with Admiral Edwards, who in turn spoke to Washington. It was decided to return sword and prisoner to Washington, where the sword would be encased in concrete, lead and steel in layers, and the prisoner would be tried in court. The sword would be transported to a secret location and locked away in a vault. |
| Ram | Super-strong human-animal amalgam/hybrid with ram's horns on his head. His favored tactic is to charge and ram an opponent, doing massive damage. At last sighting, he was abducted by a Dr. Death robot, along with the Doctor, and vanished via untrackable teleport. |

| Orbs of Power | AKA Orbs of Knowledge, Orbs of Wisdom, etc. |
| The Seven Swords | AKA The Seven Terrible Swords, rumored to be based on Elemental Powers, Transdimensional, and extremely powerful. They have reportedly surfaced from time to time. There was an incident in which the Champions (of New York) pursued Salvo and others here, where a battle took place in the Radiant Tech industrial complex as they were trying to steal some high tech research prototype and the design plans for some kind of laser, presumably intending to use it as a weapon. The complex was destroyed in the battle, with some of the lab scientists and technicians injured. Fortunately, everyone recovered fully, despite one serious injury. |
